THE GOVERNOR

 

Deborah Barnes-Jones was sworn on Monday, May 19 as the new Governor of Montserrat.

Barnes-Jones, the former UK Ambassador to Tbilisi replaces Tony Longrigg who left the island on April 2 after completing a three year stint.

The incoming British Governor of Montserrat joined the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1980.

Barnes-Jones, 48, previously served in lower ranking FCO posts in Moscow, Tel Aviv and Montevideo. She resigned from the FCO in 1986 but returned two years later.

Barnes-Jones is married to Richard Jones and they have twin daughters born in 1991. She received her education at Benenden school and Bristol University.
