Government of Montserrat Diaspora Database Initiative
The Government of Montserrat (GoM) is preparing to engage the Montserrat Diaspora in a way that is unambiguous, continuous and development-focused. With this new diaspora platform we want to begin to lay the foundation for more structured dialogue and engagement on different fronts. Below are five strategic goals that we would like to achieve in the short to medium term:
Short to Medium Term
1. Creation of a Diaspora Database which incorporates a Registry and Skills Bank
2. Development of diasporic networks and platforms which promote dialogue and facilitate action
3. Launch of diasporic collaborations and partnerships which foster cross-border trade links, joint ventures, knowledge and skills transfers, direct investments, tourism and social initiatives in sports and culture
Medium Term
1. Design and roll out of a ‘One Montserrat’ brand which promotes a sense of identity, connection and unity
2. Design and implementation of innovative financial vehicles that mainstream Diaspora Direct Investment (DDI) into a more prominent role.
