NEW SURVEYOR FOR LANDS & SURVEY DEPARTMENT

Mr. Frank Hobbs PhD MRICS MInstCES, a VSO, assumed duties at the Lands & Survey Department effective September 6, 2010.

Mr. Hobbs is an Englishman and is married with three children.  His wife hopes to join him in October and is keen to witness the good reports of Montserrat conferred to her by her husband.

His experience in survey work started in 1973 when he worked as a Cadastral Surveyor and Land Registration Supervisor for the Government of Malawi.  He entered the academic world in 1980, lecturing in Surveying, Cartography, Photogrammetry and GIS at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University until 1992, and continued at the University of East London where he also gained a PhD in Terrain Modeling and Visualisation.

Since retiring from academic work in 2001, he has carried out assignments to build up GIS and mapping units in the Maldives for island infrastructure development; in Eritrea for Coastal Biodiversity Conservation and in Tajikistan for Disaster Management.

The Staff of the Lands & Survey Department welcomes Mr. Hobbs.
