Premier, Hon. Joseph E. Farrell was among the first set of persons to receive the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine. The Ministry of Health and Social Services on Montserrat began the process of administering the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine on Montserrat on Monday February 8, 2021. Governor, His Excellency Andrew Pearce and Premier, Hon. Joseph E. Farrell received their vaccines shortly after 11 o’clock on Monday morning. Commenting on the importance of being vaccinated, the Premier, Hon. Farrell said “I think it is so important that I take my vaccine. I know what the consequences are of an infection from the coronavirus and as a result of that I think I need to protect myself, my family and of course the citizens of Montserrat, with whom I come in contact with.”
Officials from the Government of Montserrat held a ground breaking ceremony at the John A. Osborne Aiport on Tuesday January 5, 2021 to signal the start of the construction phase of the new Air Traffic Control Tower. This project is a critical infrastructure improvement project, being managed by the Ministry of Communication, Works, Energy and Labour, under the CIPREG programme. The Galloway Group is the local contractor for the project. Once completed the new Air Traffic Control Tower will replace the current control tower, and will become the tallest building on Montserrat providing modern air traffic control capabilities.
UK Chief of Defence Staff visit to Montserrat – General Sir Nick Carter, UK Chief of Defence Staff, Britain’s most senior career military officer arrived on Montserrat on February 5, 2020 as part of a wider programme of Caribbean visits including Jamaica and Antigua and Barbuda. During his visit he met key figures including the Governor, Premier, Cabinet members, the Commander of the Royal Montserrat Defence Force, the Commissioner of Police and various officials involved in the security of Montserrat.

In February 2020, the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) was in the process of finalizing arrangements for St. Barth Executive’s ‘Caribmedevac’, to provide medical evacuation services (medevac) from Montserrat to other countries. As part of the approval process, ‘Caribmedevac’ conducted test landings at the John A. Osborne Airport and allowed for a tour of the aircraft.
