POST CABINET PRESS NOTES FOR JULY 14, 2022

Members of Cabinet met on Thursday July 14, 2022 and discussed a number of matters of national importance as follows:

STATUS UPDATE ON THE MONTSERRAT PORT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Cabinet noted that some members of the Geotechnical Team had arrived on island. The team will be conducting geotechnical investigations which is a key first phase of the Montserrat Port Development Project.

SITUATION AT MONTSERRAT SECONDARY SCHOOL

Cabinet noted that the recruitment process for teachers had begun but continued to be problematic.  It was also noted that work had commenced on the L&M Blocks and should be completed in time for the new school term.

Cabinet noted challenges in the area of management, time-tabling, curriculum, teachers, space, academic teaching/learning process.

REPORT ON PERFORMANCE OF THE BUDGET APRIL 2021 – MARCH 2022

Cabinet approved the 2021/2022 Budget Performance Outlook Report and endorsed that it be laid on the Table at the next sitting of the Legislative Assembly.

The Budget Performance Outlook Report is a review of the budget. Its aim is to enable Cabinet, the Legislature and the public to understand and scrutinize how public funds are being spent, increasing transparency and accountability. The report provides commentary on the budget and gives an outlook for the upcoming period along with notes on the key policies and programmes to be instituted.

EXTERNAL QUALITY ASSESSMENT PREPAREDNESS REVIEW

Cabinet noted the results of the 2022 External Quality Assessment Preparedness Review (EQA PR) conducted by the Internal Audit Unit (IAU).

MNI POST PACK PARCEL SERVICE

Cabinet noted the paper, which sought to provide information on the establishment and operations of the MNI Post Pack Parcel Service as well as its contribution to revenue collection.

AWARD FOR DETAILED DRAWING OF HOSPITAL DESIGN

Cabinet noted that the contract for the detailed drawing of the hospital had been awarded and signed.

OVERSEAS ABSENCE

Cabinet noted that the Hon. Premier and Minister of Finance and Hon. Financial Secretary will attend the ECCB Monetary Council Meeting in St. Lucia on July 22nd.

Premier Farrell is expected to hand over the Chairmanship of the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) to St. Lucia’s Prime Minister Phillip J Pierre.
