UNESCO Transcultura Calls On Young Montserratian Entrepreneurs

The programme Transcultura: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity, implemented by UNESCO and funded by the European Union, launches the call for applications to participate in the entrepreneurship incubator “Development of exports and market opportunities in the handicraft sector”.

Addressed to young artists and professionals between 18 and 35 years of age with innovative entrepreneurship projects in the field of handicrafts from the 17 beneficiary countries of the programme (Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago), the incubator programme aims to strengthen capacities for the development of new cultural projects, self-employment and start-up/expansion activities. The initiative, implemented by the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA), will improve the participants’ access to new knowledge, markets, management models and funding sources.

The selected entrepreneurs will have access to:

  • Online Entrepreneurship Capacity-building Course, lasting six weeks and including themes such as: product and service ideation, pricing and marketing strategies, export readiness and entry into new territories, e-commerce, regional networking and market integration, and sales and fundraising techniques. The course will be delivered online between August and September 2023, over a total of eighteen (18) hours. Activities will be held every Thursday, three (3) hours per day.
  • One-on-One Online Mentoring, with professional experts from the business world. Each participant will have a specialised mentor who will provide advice focused on her/his specific needs over a two-week period.
  • “Online Trade Show” event, a dynamic one-day online trade expo, where participants will be able to publicly showcase their new product and service ideas and explore new business opportunities.
