What is a Broadband Fibre Connection?

Fibre broadband is a type of high-speed broadband which is arguably the most reliable and future-proofed connectivity technology in the world today. It uses fibre optic cables from your local broadband exchange right to your home or business. These particular cables are superior at transferring data to standard copper cables or wireless services. When we say data we mean downloading large files, streaming your favourite films in ultra-high definition, online gaming and backing up your work and personal databases on the cloud. Essentially, it gives you the power to do all the things you need to do on the internet, but faster and more reliably.

What are some benefits of fibre broadband?

  • Access and/or delivery of telemedicine services
  • Access and/or delivery of online educational tools and courses
  • Reduced paperwork and application times by utilising online applications, online payments and access to e-government facilities
  • Enabling growth in the SME sector through digital transformation giving improved access to regional and international markets and digital commerce

What is Project Lightspeed?

Project Lightspeed is a broadband fibre connection scheme through which the Government of Montserrat is partnering with the local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and subsidising the cost of connecting eligible private premises across Montserrat to the new superfast fibre optic broadband networks being rolled out island-wide.
It’s simple – sign up, get fibre installed, and your
ISP will apply to the GoM for reimbursement of the connection costs.

1. Choose your supplier

You can get access to the benefits of fibre broadband through any of the two telecommunication companies on Montserrat. Both companies offer high speed fibre connections at competitive prices.

Check out the plans from Digicel and Flow and choose your preffered Supplier

2. Sign Agreement and Voucher Form

After choosing your preferred supplier you will need to sign the new connection agreement with them and at the same time you'll complete an additional 'Voucher Allocation Form' authorising the Supplier to redeem a connection voucher payment from the GoM.

3. Supplier Installs Fibre Connection

After agreement the Supplier will provision and activate the fibre broadband upgrade to your premises. (You may install more than one connection in the same premises and may also engage both Suppliers, however only one connection will qualify for a voucher payment.)

4. Supplier Makes Claim to GoM

The Supplier makes a claim to GoM for the connection fee related to the your installation and signed Voucher Allocation Form.

5. GoM Verifies Installation

The GoM will contact you to verify the installation is in place and performing. GoM then processes payments to the Suppliers.
