Pension Retirement Date & Projection Tool
The Government of Montserrat has provided an interactive tool to help public officers plan for retirement under the current pension framework. This tool will allow you to determine when you will be first eligible to retire early and what percentage of your final average salary you will be entitled to if you retire any time between then and normal retirement age.
Technical Guidance
This tool is an interactive spreadsheet. For the best user experience, please download and open the file on a desktop or laptop computer rather than a mobile device. Use this tool to project your official retirement age and estimate your future monthly pension replacement percentages (including full pension vs. a 25% gratuity and reduced pension).
How to Use:- Input your details into the white fields: Name, Date of Birth, Date of Permanent Employment, Periods of Non-Pensionable Service, and your Planned Retirement Date.
- Understanding the Percentages: Rather than projecting exact future dollar amounts (which are subject to salary adjustments up to your retirement date), this tool focuses on replacement rates to show how your pension amount will relate to your average salary in the 3 years prior to retirement.
- Example: If your best 3-year average salary is $4,000/month, a 30% replacement rate equals $1,200/month. If Social Security adds a 45% replacement rate, your combined retirement income replaces 75% of your final salary ($3,000/month).
- Early Retirement Reductions: If you retire early, a reduction will be automatically applied based on your joining date (35 years of service required if you joined after June 2011; 30–34 years if you joined before June 2011).
- Example: If your best 3-year average salary is $4,000/month, a 30% replacement rate equals $1,200/month. If Social Security adds a 45% replacement rate, your combined retirement income replaces 75% of your final salary ($3,000/month).
