MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE MEETS WITH COMMERCIAL FARMERS

Approximately sixty (60) farmers attended a Town Hall meeting on Monday May 25, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, targeting commercial farmers.

The meeting which was held at the Montserrat Cultural Centre allowed the attendees to voice their concerns with food production on island.
Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Crenston C. Buffonge and his team to include Permanent Secretary, Beverly Mendes and Director of Agriculture, Ms. Melissa O’Garro led the Town Hall meeting.

Hon. Crenston C Buffonge spoke to the vision for agriculture and reassured farmers of the Ministries commitment to improve the overall food production on island not only by policy but by action. He also stated ways in which the farmers can join together to minimize waste and maximize on their utility.

Permanent Secretary, Beverly Mendes, explained to the farmers the various programmes and projects that are designed to provide varying levels of assistance that will improve the overall yields in production. The PS also reminded the farmers to continue to exercise responsible farming practices.

The meeting was chaired by Director of Agriculture, Ms. Melissa O’Garro.
