CABINET PRESS NOTES FOR AUGUST 11, 2022

Members of Cabinet met on Thursday August 11, 2022 and discussed a number of matters of national importance as follows:

APPLICATION FOR LANDHOLDING LICENCE – PAULA NICOLE RICHARDSON

Cabinet approved:

  • the grant of a Landholding Licence to Paula Nicole Richardson of 93 Chemin Meredith, City of Chelsea, Quebec, J9B 2N7, Canada, to own land namely, Block 12/07 Parcel 002 in the Beachettes Registration Section of Montserrat;
  • that the applicant should pay the full Landholding Licence Fee of $2,500 upon the grant of the licence.

Cabinet advised that Government should work with the Police to expedite its requests in a more timely manner.

APPOINTMENT OF A VOLCANO RELIEF COMMITTEE

Cabinet approved the appointments of the three (3) representatives to the Volcano Relief Committee, as follows:

  • Representative of the Montserrat Christian Council – Mr Trevor Howe;
  • Representative of the Montserrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Ms Daphne Furlonge; and
  • Representative of the Trade Union Movement –

Ms Linda Dias.

APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS OF MONTSERRAT ARTS COUNCIL (MAC) BOARD OF MANAGEMENT

Cabinet approved:

  • the appointment of the Montserrat Arts Council (MAC) Board of Management, namely:
  • Mr Albrun Semper – Chairman;
    • Mr Norman Cassell – Deputy Chairman;
    • Mrs Adrienne Laborde – Treasurer;
    • Miss Adena Johnson – Secretary; and
    • Mr Trevon Pollard, Member.
  • Appointment of Mr Basil Morgan is a Member is awaiting confirmation;
  • the initial period of appointment from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023 with the option to extend for further periods(s), not exceeding three (3) years; and
  • that a remuneration of $1,200 for the Chairperson and $900 for each Member per quarter be paid from the funds of the Council.

TO FURTHER SUSPEND THE COLLECTION OF CRUISE SHIP TAX FOR ONE (1) YEAR

Cabinet approved:

  • in keeping with the provisions of Section 5 of the Cruise Ship Act, that the provisions in SR&O No.30 of 2017 (Suspension of the Collection of Cruise Ship Tax), which expired on the 31 March 2022, be extended until 31 August 2023;
  • that “A Master of a Cruise Ship anchoring in the territorial waters of Montserrat is exempted from the payment of Cruise Ship Tax for the period 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2023.
