The Treasury Department said the introduction of the electronic device to process card payments, is in keeping with the Government of Montserrat’s drive to improve its services to customers, reduce regulatory compliance costs and remove barriers to trade.

The Treasury Department has identified key revenue collection points for the installation of a PoS Terminals. These include the Treasury Department, Ministry of Communications, Works and Labour, Customs Airport and Seaport and the Royal Montserrat the Royal Montserrat Police Service (RMPS).

The Department also explained that the PoS Terminals will serve to facilitate e-commerce payments, thereby reducing the amount of cash being collected or handled at various revenue collection points. Furthermore, the initiative will provide a safe and convenient mode of payment for customers for the payment of taxes, permits, licenses etc.

Prior to the introduction of the PoS Terminals, the Treasury Department partnered with the Bank of Montserrat (BoM) who provided the devices and conducted the training on the proper use of the device. In the future, the devices will also be able to accommodate BOM debit cards as well.
