CARIBBEAN ENERGY DATA COLLECTION INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Release Date: June 5, 2020

Nationals and residents of Montserrat who are interested in the energy sector, now have an opportunity to gain some work experience in the field, through an internship programme, being implemented by the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE).

The internship opportunity was announced today by the Energy Unit in the Ministry of Communications, Works, Energy and Labour (MCWEL), following correspondence from the CCREEE.

The CCREEE was established as the implementation hub for sustainable energy activities and projects within the region and is a specialized agency of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The CCREEE noted that the lack of a comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date dataset on the energy market in Caribbean countries is an obstacle not only to long-term planning and decision making, but also to socio- economic development and environmental protection in the region.

The internship opportunity is open to 15 countries across the region including Montserrat. The successful applicant on Montserrat will from July 7 to September 30, 2020 in the Energy Unit in MCWEL, and will be required to work in close collaboration with regional and national institutions to collect energy-related data for Caribbean territories.

The internship will provide students and/or young professionals with a unique opportunity to work with the energy sector institutions and stakeholders in their countries, gain practical experience in the energy sector and contribute to the knowledge management functions of the CARICOM Energy Knowledge Hub (CEKH).
Interested persons should submit their applications, in the form of a motivation letter and a CV, on or before June 23, 2020 to intern@ccreee.org and copied to BurkeK@gov.ms

Applicants should:
• Have a Bachelor’s degree, or on course for completion of one by December 2020.
• Be interested in the energy sector.
• Be willing to learn about the socio-economic, technical and environmental aspects of the energy landscape; Studies in sustainable energy, environmental sciences or related fields are an asset but not a requirement.
• National or resident of Montserrat
• Be proficient in English.

This internship opportunity will add to the CCREEE’s 2019 Energy Report Card (ERC) Data Collection Internship Programme, and the information collected by the intern will be used to update the ERC’s.

The ERC’s are knowledge sharing products offered through the CCREEE. They provide information on Caribbean countries, including current electricity sector data, policies and opportunities to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels through renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy resilience projects. These report cards depict the energy landscape of islands in the Caribbean and are therefore important tools to member states and their partners.
